Typst Blog

Typst is a typesetter that is commonly called a modern version of LaTeX. Unlike Microsoft Word, Google Docs or Apple Notes, typesetters are written in standard text and all of the markup is done through functions or short-hand.

Why Move the Blog?

Ghost is a great platform for blogging and content creation. It is SUPER powerful and incredibly easy to self-host. I loved it! I've been using it in 2024.

But with Typst adding preliminary HTML support, I thought it would be really cool and kinda fun to move my blog over to it. I used it most recently in my 17,000 word Final Year Project Report, a document I am immensely proud of. So much so that I now own the semi-official TU Dublin Typst report template!

I'm slowly moving all of my writings over to Typst with standardised templates for docs, presentations (Until I roll my own presentation software… look out PowerPoint!), and now I want to do that to my blog.

Initial manual attempts went very poorly, and I accidentally ran into Myriad Dreamin's blog when looking at Typst things and realised it is exactly what I want.

Thank you Myriad Dreamin!

Using Typst allows me to use a language I am very familiar with as opposed to fumbling with Ghost's post writer. It allows me to keep my blog as Source Code and change how I consume it if I ever decide to roll my own blog.

Isn't This Just a Nothingburger?

Yeah, pretty much. I wanted to explicity thank Myriad Dreamin for open-sourcing such a lovely system that just works out of the box, while also explaining why my blog looks different for those curious.
